Spoiler warning: This article reveals major plot points and the ending of Not a Stranger Season 1.

The ending of Not a Stranger confirms that Funda was never simply “losing it”: the nanny she welcomed into her home, Nazlı, deliberately engineered her way into the family and spent the season quietly dismantling Funda’s grip on reality. By the finale, Funda checks herself into a treatment facility and steps away from her home, leaving Nazlı embedded with the very family she has decided is rightfully hers.

Not a Stranger — released globally on Netflix on September 17, 2026, and streaming in the US now — is the English title for the Turkish psychological thriller Seni Tanıyorum. The eight-episode series climbed to No. 3 on Netflix’s global chart within days of release, and its slow-burn final stretch rewards a careful rewatch. Here is what actually happens, and what it means.

What happens at the end of Not a Stranger

The finale reframes the entire season. Funda, a new mother stretched thin by her marriage, her career, and the isolating pressure of raising her young daughter Mavi, has spent eight episodes doubting her own perceptions. The people around her — chiefly her husband, İlker — treat her fears about the nanny as symptoms of a woman who cannot cope. The ending makes clear that her instincts were sound all along.

Rather than exposing Nazlı and reclaiming her household, Funda does the opposite: she leaves. Worn down and no longer trusting her own footing, she enters a mental-health facility to seek treatment, physically removing herself from home. That decision is the series’ cruelest irony. The woman who was right is the one who exits, while Nazlı — the threat she correctly identified — remains inside, closer than ever to Mavi and to İlker.

Who is Nazlı, really?

Nazlı’s arrival is presented early on as a lucky coincidence. Funda meets her around Mavi’s swimming lessons, learns she is leaving her current job, and offers her work as the family’s nanny. The finale dismantles that innocent framing. Nazlı did not stumble into Funda’s life; she chose it. Her connection to İlker predates the family, and it recolors every warm, capable moment she showed as a caregiver.

In Nazlı’s own logic, she is not an interloper at all — she believes she is the rightful mother in that house and the woman who belongs at İlker’s side. That belief is what makes her dangerous. She is not improvising chaos; she is executing a plan to replace Funda, and the household she is trying to take over is one she feels was taken from her.

Was Funda paranoid, or was she pushed?

This is the question the series dangles for most of its runtime, and the ending answers it with a firm “both.” Funda’s exhaustion is real. The strain of new motherhood, a demanding job, and a marriage under pressure would destabilize anyone, and the show never pretends her struggle is invented. But the finale confirms that Nazlı actively made it worse — nudging situations, shading the truth, and letting everyone around Funda read her legitimate alarm as instability.

That is the engine of the whole thriller. Nazlı weaponizes the way people underestimate an overwhelmed mother. Every time Funda raises a concern, her credibility has already been spent, and Nazlı benefits from the doubt. The horror is not supernatural; it is the very ordinary experience of not being believed.

Emre’s death and Kemal’s discovery

Two developments keep the finale from being a total loss for the truth. Emre, one of the characters positioned to see through Nazlı, does not survive the season — a death that removes a potential ally and raises the stakes around what Nazlı is willing to do to protect her position. And Kemal ends the season holding information that could unravel Nazlı’s entire scheme.

Crucially, Funda never receives that information before she leaves. The audience understands the full picture; the person who needed it most does not. Kemal’s knowledge is the loaded gun left on the table, and the season ends before anyone fires it.

The threads left open for a possible Season 2

As of this writing, Netflix has not announced a second season of Not a Stranger. But the finale is built as an opening rather than a resolution. Funda is out of the house but not gone; Nazlı has what she wanted but has not been exposed; and Kemal is sitting on the truth. If the series returns, the obvious next move is Funda’s fight to reclaim her family armed, at last, with proof — and Nazlı’s escalation to keep the life she has convinced herself she deserves.

Whether or not it comes back, the ending lands its point. Not a Stranger is less about a twist and more about a pattern: how easily a woman’s warnings can be filed away as hysteria, and how much damage that dismissal can do while everyone is looking the other way.

Frequently asked

Is Not a Stranger available in the US? Yes. It streams on Netflix worldwide, including the United States, where all eight episodes of Season 1 are available.

What is the original title? The series is Turkish, and its original title is Seni Tanıyorum. Netflix distributes it internationally as Not a Stranger.

How many episodes are there? Season 1 runs eight episodes.

Does the ending resolve the story? No. It is deliberately open. Funda leaves for treatment, Nazlı remains with the family, and Kemal holds evidence that has not yet come to light — all threads that a second season could pick up.

Has Netflix renewed it for Season 2? Not yet. No renewal had been announced at the time of writing, though the finale clearly leaves room for one.
