My Sad Dead, Pablo Larraín’s supernatural horror miniseries, is streaming on Netflix in the US now, having premiered globally on September 24, 2026. Like every Netflix original, it went live at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (3:00 a.m. Eastern), and watching it costs only a Netflix subscription, which starts at $8.99 a month for the Standard with Ads plan.

If that answers your question, the rest of this guide covers everything else a US viewer needs before pressing play: how long it is, what language it’s in, who made it, and whether it’s worth your evening. Here’s how to watch My Sad Dead.

Where to watch My Sad Dead in the US

The series is a Netflix exclusive, so Netflix is the only place to stream it legally in the United States. There is no separate rental or purchase option; it’s included with any active plan. Netflix’s current US tiers are Standard with Ads at $8.99 a month, the ad-free Standard at $19.99 a month, and Premium at $26.99 a month. Premium is the only tier that streams in 4K Ultra HD with HDR, which is worth noting for a series this visually composed — Larraín is a director who shoots for the frame.

When did My Sad Dead come out?

All episodes landed on Netflix on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Netflix releases its originals simultaneously worldwide at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time, which is 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time, so US subscribers had the full run available the moment they woke up that morning. Because the entire miniseries dropped at once, there is no weekly rollout to track — you can watch it in a single sitting or spread it out at your own pace.

How many episodes is My Sad Dead, and how long is it?

This is a limited series of four episodes, and Larraín directed all of them. That compact length is a feature, not a shortcut: it plays less like an open-ended series fishing for a renewal and more like a long, deliberate film cut into chapters. Set aside an evening or two and you’ll reach the end without the sag that stretches out longer horror shows.

What language is it in, and are there subtitles?

The original title is Mis muertos tristes, and the series is performed in Spanish and set in Argentina, in a fictional neighborhood called Piedrabuena. Netflix distributes it internationally as My Sad Dead with English subtitles, and an English-language audio dub is available through the platform’s usual audio menu. Subtitle purists and dub-preferrers are both covered; the choice is in the playback settings, as with any Netflix original.

What is My Sad Dead about?

The story follows Ema (Mercedes Morán), a retired doctor who lives alone and carries an unusual burden: she can see and speak with the dead. As she grieves the loss of her own mother, the fragile balance she has kept between the living and the dead starts to collapse. The arrival of her niece — who shares the same gift — and the murder of three local teenagers set off a disturbance that pulls the neighborhood’s dead into the open.

It’s grief horror as much as ghost story. The series is based on the work of the acclaimed Argentine writer Mariana Enríquez, weaving together her short story “Mis muertos tristes” with elements drawn from other pieces in her catalog. Enríquez is one of the most celebrated voices in contemporary Latin American horror, and the adaptation leans into her signature blend of the supernatural and the social — the dead here are inseparable from the violence and loss of the world that produced them.

Who is in the cast?

Mercedes Morán anchors the series as Ema. The ensemble around her includes Dolores Fonzi, Alejandra Flechner, Carlos Portaluppi, Germán de Silva, and the Chilean actor Luz Jiménez, with Carolina Álvarez as the niece whose visit tips Ema’s world off its axis. It’s a cast stacked with heavyweight Latin American film talent, which tracks for a project of this pedigree.

Is it worth watching?

The credentials are hard to argue with. Pablo Larraín is the acclaimed Chilean director behind films like Jackie, Spencer, and El Conde, and My Sad Dead competed in the Official Section of the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival before reaching Netflix — a rare festival berth for a streaming miniseries. If you want prestige horror with real directorial control rather than jump-scare filler, this is a strong pick, and at four episodes it asks for very little of your time.
