Netflix is deepening its relationship with comedian Gad Elmaleh. After releasing his stand-up special Gad Elmaleh goes live on the platform, the streamer is now backing him on a scripted comedy series project.

Gad Elmaleh develops a scripted series with Netflix

The comedian is moving from the stand-up stage to a narrative format with a half-hour series titled Huge in the United States. This project marks a new step in his collaboration with Netflix, as he is not only the star of the show but also one of its writers and producers.

Across eight 30-minute episodes, he will play a fictionalized version of himself. The story follows his decision to leave his comfort zone and relocate to Los Angeles to reconnect with his 16-year-old son. The show draws directly from his own life for its premise and main character.

A personal story at the center of the show

Rather than building an entirely invented character, the series leans into Elmaleh’s public persona. By casting himself as the lead in this comedy about family, career shifts, and cross-cultural adjustments, the project blurs the line between autobiography and fiction while keeping the focus on humor.

The narrative centers on his arrival in Los Angeles and the challenges that come with starting over in a new environment while trying to be present for a teenage son. The structure—eight short episodes—aims for a bingeable format that fits Netflix’s global audience.

Release plans still under wraps

As of now, Netflix has not announced when Huge in the United States will premiere. Viewers interested in Elmaleh’s comedic universe will have to wait a little longer for official timing and additional details.

In the meantime, the best way to get a feel for his style is to stream his stand-up specials already available on Netflix.

Where to stream Gad Elmaleh stand-up on Netflix

While the upcoming series is in preparation, several of his comedy specials are already streaming on the platform. They showcase the themes and tone that also drive his scripted project: culture shock, everyday misunderstandings, and observational humor.
