On February 26, Netflix is rolling out a new dark comedy series that blends small-town life, failed rap dreams and outright absurdity. The show follows a struggling rapper who is dragged back to his hometown after a bizarre family tragedy, only to find himself facing a past he tried to leave behind and a future he never saw coming.

When a failed rapper is sent back home

The story centers on Toni, played by Anton “Fatoni” Schneider. As a teenager, his only goal was to escape his hometown of Kacken, a village on the Havel river, and make it big as a rapper. Fast-forward eighteen years: he’s now living in Berlin, but the dream hasn’t worked out. His music career has stalled, and he’s paying the bills delivering pizzas instead of filling venues.

Everything changes when his mother dies suddenly while trying to rescue a duck. That strange and tragic event forces Toni to return to Kacken. What starts as a reluctant trip back for family reasons quickly turns into a turning point, shaking up both his personal life and his artistic ambitions. Back in the village he ran from, he has to navigate unexpected chances to revive his career while dealing with unfinished business he never wanted to confront.

An offbeat cast of characters and a talking duck

Once Toni is back in Kacken, nothing feels simple. He has to deal with an environment that is both unavoidable and deeply unsettling for him. He reconnects with Johnny Carrera, his stepfather — who is actually younger than Toni — played by Dimitrij Schaad. Around them, the village is packed with eccentric locals whose behavior constantly pushes the show into surreal territory.

Amid all that chaos, one element stands out: a talking duckling named Tupac, voiced by Jella Haase. The presence of Tupac adds another layer of absurdity to the story, while underlining just how far from his original rap dreams Toni’s reality has drifted.

As if the situation was not complicated enough, a teenager suddenly enters Toni’s life. Charly, his 13-year-old son played by Sky Arndt, shows up — and Toni had no idea he even existed. The comedy leans heavily on these uneasy encounters and clashing personalities, but it also uses them to explore themes like parenthood, failure, and the possibility of a second chance when you think your story is already written.

A Netflix production with a strong creative team

The series, released internationally on Netflix under a localized title, is produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production. Direction is handled by Alex Schaad and Jano Ben Chaabane, working from a script co-written by Dimitrij Schaad, Alex Schaad and several collaborators. Filming took place across multiple locations in Germany and Poland, including Berlin, the Uckermark region and an area near the border.

The cast brings together Jördis Triebel, Marc Hosemann, Matthias Brandt, Edin Hasanovic, Ruth Reinecke, Vincent Redetzki and Veronica Ferres in a guest role. With this show, Netflix continues to expand its catalog of European comedies with a strong, distinctive tone that can resonate with viewers in the United States looking for something outside the usual sitcom formula.

Available on Netflix starting February 26, the series offers a quirky dive into a rural setting where absurd situations highlight the characters’ emotional journeys as much as they deliver laughs.
