Spoiler warning: this article reveals and explains the entire ending of Gandhari.

Gandhari ends with Bani, a blind mother played by Taapsee Pannu, surviving two devastating betrayals and killing the man behind a child-trafficking ring to rescue her daughter and dozens of other captive children. The Hindi-language thriller has been streaming on Netflix in the US since September 3, 2026, and its finale trades detective-story logic for the emotional force of a myth. Here is exactly how it plays out, who turns on Bani, and what the title really means.

What actually happens at the end of Gandhari

The story unfolds in the fictional city of Joypurra, where a trafficking network called Blackhole makes children disappear without a trace. Bani, a blind mother whose other senses are heightened, works her way up the chain to find her missing daughter, Mishty. On the night of the Chaumukhi festival, she realizes the traffickers are using the celebration as cover to move children out through a secret passage dug toward the sea near Dakshinpara beach. Following that lead — and the memory of a song Mishty used to hum — she reaches the docks, where dozens of drugged children have been packed into crates for shipment.

The double betrayal: Shishukal, then Gokul

The first blow comes from Shishukal, the woman who had been helping Bani dismantle the ring. She was tied to Blackhole all along. Years earlier, she had handed her own brother to the traffickers — a man who then sold four little girls, one of them a young Bani, in exchange for his granddaughter. It was Shishukal who leaked Bani’s address, hoping to trade her partner, Gokul, for one of the captives; instead, the traffickers took Mishty. Their confrontation ends with Shishukal’s death.

The second revelation cuts deeper. At the docks, Gokul blocks Bani’s path and confesses that he was a Blackhole operative long before they ever met. He was the one who saved young Bani from an abduction, before the two fell in love and married. To get Mishty back, he struck a bargain with the network’s boss: keep Bani from freeing the other children, and the ring would return their daughter. Bani refuses to sacrifice other people’s children to save her own, and she is forced to bring down her own husband in a wrenching fight.

The final duel with Dada Bhai — and what the ending means

That leaves the mastermind, Dada Bhai, who imagines himself as Magrasur, the demon set against the goddess Chaumukhi. He wounds Bani badly, then drags a terrified Mishty out of a crate and even hums the child’s favorite song to break Bani’s focus. It has the opposite effect. Seeing her daughter again gives Bani the strength to rise and kill Dada Bhai, running him through with a metal rod. She frees Mishty and every captive child, ending Blackhole’s grip on the city.

This is where the title lands. Like Queen Gandhari of the Mahabharata, who blindfolded herself in solidarity with her blind husband, the heroine turns her blindness into a kind of moral clear-sightedness, stepping into the role of the goddess against the demon. The film maps its climax onto that mythological duel rather than a tidy crime resolution.

What the film deliberately leaves open

Gandhari settles the essentials — Mishty is saved, the boss is dead — but it does not try to close every door. The exact geography of the coastal passage and the true scope of the local corruption stay hazy, and that reads as a choice rather than an oversight: the movie favors mythic logic and emotion over the mechanics of an investigation. The deeper wound, a trafficking economy fed by trauma passed down through generations, is left open on purpose, a reminder that the horror does not stop when the credits roll.

Who made Gandhari and where to stream it

Gandhari is a 2026 Indian action thriller directed by Devashish Makhija and written and produced by Kanika Dhillon. Alongside Taapsee Pannu as Bani, the cast includes Ishwak Singh as Gokul, along with Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, and Mita Vashisht. In the US, the film is streaming on Netflix, included with any Netflix plan, with no separate rental or purchase required.

Frequently asked

How does Gandhari end?
Bani faces the ring’s boss, Dada Bhai, alone, kills him by running him through with a metal rod, and frees Mishty and the other children held at the docks. The film closes on that rescue.

Who betrays Bani?
Two people close to her. First Shishukal, her supposed ally, who has been linked to the trafficking network the whole time; then Gokul, her husband and a former Blackhole operative, who agreed to slow her down in exchange for their daughter.

What does the title Gandhari mean?
It refers to the queen from the Mahabharata who blindfolded herself out of solidarity with her blind husband. Here, Bani’s blindness becomes a metaphor for moral clarity, echoing the mythic duel between the goddess Chaumukhi and the demon Magrasur.

Will there be a Gandhari sequel?
Nothing has been announced. The story completes its arc — the mother finds her daughter — and ends on that victory without setting up a direct follow-up.

Where can I watch Gandhari in the US?
It is streaming on Netflix in the United States, available on any Netflix subscription tier.
