Status: Renewed — twice. The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is coming back to Netflix not for one season but for two: the streamer officially confirmed Seasons 2 and 3 on October 19, 2026. Better still for viewers who have waited since early 2025, both seasons are being filmed at the same time.

That double order is a loud signal of how much Netflix values its breakout Korean medical hit. Here is what the renewal means, who is coming back, and where to watch the story so far in the United States.

Is The Trauma Code renewed or canceled?

Renewed. On October 19, 2026, Netflix confirmed that The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call will return for both a second and a third season, with the two installments shooting back to back rather than one after the other. Director Lee Do-yoon is returning to helm both seasons, and a new writer is joining the team for Season 3 — a setup that should keep the tone consistent while bringing fresh ideas to the later run.

Who is returning for Season 2?

Ju Ji-hoon reprises his role as Baek Gang-hyeok, the battle-hardened trauma surgeon at the center of the series, and Choo Young-woo returns as his protégé, Yang Jae-won. Yoon Kyung-ho and Jung Jae-kwang are also back, keeping the core of the trauma team intact.

There is one notable recast. The role of veteran nurse Cheon Jang-mi, part of the show’s central trio, will be played by Jung Ye-in — a former K-pop idol — after Ahn Ha-young voluntarily stepped away from the upcoming seasons. It is the one significant change to the lineup fans already know.

What will the new seasons be about?

Netflix has kept plot specifics thin, saying only that the new seasons will lean into “stronger teamwork to save patients in even more desperate situations.” In practice, that points to the same high-adrenaline formula that made the first season land: impossible cases, split-second decisions, and a surgeon who refuses to lose a patient he thinks he can save. Filming both seasons together also suggests a continuous, serialized arc rather than two self-contained stories.

The renewal has been a long time coming. The first season arrived in January 2025 and almost immediately climbed Netflix’s global charts, becoming one of the platform’s most-watched non-English titles of the year and a word-of-mouth favorite well beyond its home market. A two-season order is unusual for a Korean drama on Netflix, and committing to it nearly two years after the premiere suggests the streamer wanted certainty about its creative team and returning cast before pulling the trigger on this scale.

When will The Trauma Code Season 2 premiere?

No release date has been announced. Because Seasons 2 and 3 are being shot simultaneously, the production timeline is substantial, and Netflix has not set a window for either. Given that the renewal was only just confirmed, a premiere is not imminent — but the back-to-back shoot means that once Season 2 arrives, Season 3 should not be far behind. We will update this guide as soon as Netflix dates the return.

What is The Trauma Code, and how do I watch it?

The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is a South Korean medical action-comedy that premiered on Netflix on January 24, 2025. All eight episodes of the first season are streaming now on Netflix in the United States, including on the ad-supported tier, so there is an easy on-ramp before the new seasons arrive.

The series follows Baek Gang-hyeok, a surgeon hardened by years of work in conflict zones who is recruited into a neglected, underfunded trauma center and drags it — often by sheer force of will — toward world-class standards. Adapted from the web novel Trauma Center: Golden Hour and a later Naver webtoon, it became a global top-10 hit for Netflix on release, pairing gory, fast-moving emergency-room sequences with a streak of dark comedy. If you have never sampled a Korean drama, it is an unusually accessible place to start.

Frequently asked

How many seasons of The Trauma Code will there be? Three. Netflix has ordered Seasons 2 and 3 on top of the first season, and both new seasons are filming at the same time.

Is Ju Ji-hoon coming back? Yes. Ju Ji-hoon returns as lead surgeon Baek Gang-hyeok, alongside Choo Young-woo and most of the original core cast.

Do I need to watch Season 1 first? It helps. The new seasons continue the same team’s story, and the eight-episode first season is a quick, bingeable watch.

Where can I watch The Trauma Code in the US? Netflix. Season 1 is streaming now, and Seasons 2 and 3 will debut on Netflix once dates are announced.
