Why the start time was so brutal in the US
The concert went out live at 8 p.m. in Seoul. Korea is thirteen hours ahead of US Eastern time, which put the American start at 7 a.m. ET and 4 a.m. PT — a genuinely unreasonable ask on the West Coast.
That is the trade with a real global livestream: one moment, shared everywhere, and somebody is always awake at the wrong hour for it. The replay exists precisely because Netflix knew most of its US audience would watch after the fact.
The two versions, and which to pick
Netflix put up a re-edited cut on March 22, the day after the broadcast. The live stream and the edit are not the same experience.
The live version carries the atmosphere of the moment — the crowd, the imperfections, the sense of an event happening. The edit is tighter and better paced. If it is your first time, take the edit; if you watched live and want the night back, take the original.
Why Gwanghwamun Square matters
The venue was not a stadium booking. Gwanghwamun Square sits at the historic centre of Seoul, in front of the main palace gate — a civic space, not a concert venue, and one that carries real symbolic weight in Korea.
Staging a comeback there rather than in an arena was a statement about scale and about place, and it reads on camera in a way an arena never does.
