Recently added to Netflix, The Lionesses has quickly turned into a breakout hit, landing in the platform’s Top 10. Blending crime comedy, social drama and heist thrills, this series inspired by the real-life “Gang of Amazons” case has captured a wide audience. With viewers binge-watching the first run, the big question now is simple: is Netflix planning a season 2 of The Lionesses?

Where things stand: no season 2 renewal yet

As of now, Netflix has not officially greenlit a second season of The Lionesses. The show is not labelled as a closed-ended miniseries, which technically keeps the door open for more episodes, but the streamer has not announced any additional order.

Netflix is bringing back Dubai Bling for season 4 in 2026: what viewers can expect

Like most of its original productions, Netflix is taking time to study several internal metrics before making a decision. Among the factors that usually matter:

  • How many people press play and how long the show stays in the Top 10
  • Completion rate across episodes (do viewers actually finish the season?)
  • Its ability to attract audiences beyond its home territory
  • How strong and sustained viewer engagement is over time

The current performance of The Lionesses is promising, but on its own it is not enough to guarantee a second season. Netflix typically watches what happens over several weeks, sometimes months, before locking in a renewal or a cancellation.

What season 1 sets up for the story

Season 1 of The Lionesses centers on five women facing intense personal and financial pressure. Pushed to the edge, they decide to rob a bank in an attempt to seize back control over their lives. The show leans heavily on group dynamics, morally complex choices and the increasingly serious legal fallout of their actions.

Without giving away major spoilers, the season does not wrap everything up in a neat bow. Several narrative threads are deliberately left unresolved, including:

  • The legal fate of some of the main characters
  • The long-term impact of the heist on their loved ones
  • The fragility of the balance the group manages to build

This open-ended structure clearly leaves room for the creative team to continue the story in a potential second season, rather than having to reboot or start from scratch.

FAQ

Will The Lionesses get a season 2 on Netflix?

At the moment, Netflix has not officially announced a second season of The Lionesses. The show’s format allows for more episodes, but no renewal has been confirmed.

Why hasn’t Netflix decided on season 2 yet?

Netflix is still analyzing key data such as viewership levels, how many people finish the season, how well the show performs internationally and overall engagement over time before committing to a new season.

Does season 1 tell a complete story?

No. While season 1 offers a substantial story arc, several important plot points remain open, including the judicial outcomes for some characters, the impact of the heist on their families and the stability of the group itself. Those elements could be developed further in a possible season 2.

Where can I watch The Lionesses right now?

The first season of The Lionesses is available to watch in streaming on Netflix.
