The Yellowstone universe is not slowing down. With Marshals: A Yellowstone Story, Paramount+ is opening a fresh chapter built around Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes. Set to premiere on March 1, 2026, this neo-western series blends law-enforcement drama with sweeping Montana landscapes, extending the legacy of the original hit.

Kayce Dutton steps into a new life with the U.S. Marshals

After the events of Yellowstone, Kayce walks away from ranch life for good and joins a specialized U.S. Marshals unit. The show follows his integration into a team tasked with keeping the peace in a territory shaped by power struggles and organized crime.

The narrative balances high-stakes federal operations with the emotional weight of Kayce’s family history. He aims for redemption by distancing himself from past conflicts, even though his previous life keeps catching up with him.

  • A federal assignment set in the state of Montana
  • A lead character still marked by his years on the ranch
  • A story world that directly continues the Yellowstone timeline

Cast: familiar Yellowstone faces and new players

Luke Grimes is joined by three actors that Yellowstone fans will immediately recognize:

  • Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater
  • Mo Brings Plenty as Mo
  • Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton

Alongside this core group from the original series, several new characters enter the picture:

  • Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner
  • Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz
  • Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle
  • Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin

This mix of returning and new talent signals a clear intention: preserve the Yellowstone DNA while expanding the universe with dynamics that lean further into neo-western crime storytelling.

A strategic release plan and an expansive shoot

Marshals: A Yellowstone Story is the first entry in the Sheridan-verse to air on CBS before heading to Paramount+. That strategy builds on the strong performance of Yellowstone and other Taylor Sheridan projects in linear broadcast in the United States.

The production was filmed largely in Utah, with a reported budget of 52 million dollars. Many of the locations were already used in the early seasons of Yellowstone, ensuring strong visual continuity in how the American wide-open spaces are portrayed on screen.

Season 1 is planned for 13 episodes, released weekly starting March 1.

Fans of neo-westerns can expect the same raw, stripped-down aesthetic that defined the Yellowstone universe, combined with a more procedural angle focused on U.S. Marshals operations.
